Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) "Parthenon" was a short-lived band from Venezuela, active from 1979 to 1981. "Mare Tenebris" is sort of a revival album, created more than 20 years later by Robert Santamaría, who was one of the founding members. However, he's the only one left from the original line-up. The album contains three tracks from the old days, both as original recordings, as well as in new interpretations by a different cast. The remaining compositions, most of them instrumental ones with frequent Keith-Emerson-type flashbacks, are written by Robert Santamaría alone, and make up the real meat of this recording. Favorite track: Mare Tenebris.

The excellent second album by "Us" was on my wishlist already for too long... It's on the same high musical level as its predecessor, and fans of "IQ" certainly will enjoy it. It occurs around once in a lifetime (statistically, not literally) that I select a 25+ minute track as my favorite - but here the miracle happened, which allows some conclusions about the overall songwriting quality of the music. The highlights of the songs are their awesome melodies that go round and round in my head all day long, as well as Jos Wernars' thundering bass guitar, rumbling along in best Chris Squire tradition. Excellent set from this Italian group . Well worth adding to your collection. I always prefer live sets to studio recordings. There are many great Italian groups - I recommend anything involving Fabio Zuffanti of Finisterre .Phoenix Again are totally different- great spectrum of Italian progressive bands . Nick Bradey
